Good works from IBEW apprentices!

Happy Holidays

Teddy Bear Drive  for Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital led by IBEW apprentice, follows BJC Toy Drive!

You may remember a few months ago when Local 1 apprentices working on the BJC Expansion project came together to raise funds to purchase toys for Child Life Services at St. Louis Bears MikeApprentice Mike VernaciChildren's Hospital. The effort was led by apprentice Tony Scarpace and supported by site steward Josh Peniston. A generous outpouring of support by St Louis Building and Construction Trades union members culminated in more than $4,000.00 in donations. It was an effort which highlighted the heart, goodwill, and generosity of union members in our region. The drive was covered by Tim Rowden of the St. Louis/ Southern Illinois Labor Tribune here and KMOV did a great job on the story - click on the link below to watch the video!

As the Christmas holiday approached their charitable spirits were sparked again, this time by apprentice Mike Vernaci. As a former fightfigher and paramedic, Mike understands the importance of bringing a smile to kids who have to spend Christmas in the hospital. With the support and help of his instructor Todd Kaplan, Mike rallied his class and other officers of the Apprenticeship Social Club and together they raised enough money to purchase more than 500 brand new Teddy Bears for the kids at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. Mike's enthusiasm even caught on at the St Louis office of the National Electrical Contractors Association, when President Doug Martin offered to match, "teddy bear for teddy bear," the contributions of his staff. Everyone involved in the effort came together to help deliver the bears to the hospital on December 23rd - you can see the joyful smiles on all their faces in the images!
